Understanding Kitchen Finishes in Cyprus

When Cypriot homeowners talk about kitchen finishes, they are almost always referring to the door front material — the visible face of the cabinet. The two most common choices are melamine laminate (often called simply 'melamine' or 'laminate') and lacquer (available in matte, satin, or gloss).

Melamine laminate is manufactured by bonding a decorative paper layer onto a substrate (usually particleboard or MDF) under high heat and pressure. The result is a hard, consistent surface that is:

Lacquer: Superior Aesthetics, Premium Feel

Kitchen lacquer is a finish applied to an MDF door substrate in multiple coats — typically primer, base coat, and two to three finish coats — in a temperature and humidity-controlled spray environment. The result is a seamless, glass-smooth surface with no visible joint anywhere on the door.

Matte lacquer in particular has become the defining finish of contemporary luxury kitchens in Cyprus. Key characteristics:
